ACC reveals new tiebreaker policy for 2023 football season
The ACC is transitioning to a single conference schedule instead of a 2-division model like in the past. And with that come some rule and policy changes.
The conference revealed its tiebreaker policy for the upcoming season Wednesday morning. The policy for a 2-team tie is as follows:
- Head-to-head.
- Win percentage against common opponents.
- Win percentage against common opponents based on order of finish.
- Combined win percentage of conference opponents.
- The team with the highest analytical rating per SportSource analytics following conclusion of regular season games.
- Chosen by a draw.
And here is the tiebreaker policy for 3 or more teams:
- Combined head-to-head win percentage among tied teams if all are common opponents.
- If all teams are not common opponents, the tied team that defeated each of the other tied teams.
- Win percentage against common opponents.
- Win percentage against common opponents based on order of finish.
- Combined win percentage of conference opponents.
- The team with the highest analytical rating per SportSource analytics following conclusion of regular season games.
- Chosen by a draw.
