Alabama fell to Tennessee 52-49 in Knoxville on Saturday night.

Kicker Chase McGrath ended the game with a 40-yard field goal as time expired. It’s Tennessee’s first win over the Crimson Tide since 2006. Nick Saban had never lost to the Volunteers as Alabama’s head coach.

Here’s video of McGrath’s game-winning kick:

Tennessee quarterback Hendon Hooker was sensational. He threw for 385 yards and 5 touchdowns in this win. He also completed 2 clutch passes on the Vols’ final drive in order to get Tennessee into field goal range.

This game will have major implications on the College Football Playoff race. Alabama could still be in the mix if it runs the table. However, a second loss would likely eliminate the Tide from contention.

Tennessee is now firmly in the CFP mix and will likely be a top 5 team in the updated AP Poll on Sunday. The Vols and Georgia are the frontrunners to win the SEC East. Georgia hosts Tennessee on Nov. 5.
