ESPN’s FPI projects outcome in Clemson-North Carolina ACC Championship Game

Clemson and North Carolina will meet on Saturday night in the ACC Championship Game.

Both teams are coming off of a loss during Week 13, but ESPN’s Football Power Index sees a clear favorite. FPI gives Clemson a 77.7% chance of claiming the win.

Clemson’s loss to South C

arolina last week was disappointing for the Tigers, who were hoping to be in the mix for a College Football Playoff berth. However, they weren’t able to find enough stops in the second half to keep Spencer Rattler and the Gamecocks off the score board.

Quarterback DJ Uiagalelei also struggled mightily in that game, completing just 8-of-29 passes for 99 yards. He’s expected to get the start again on Saturday night vs. the Tar Heels.

Clemson’s defense has been a bright spot for most of this season and should play a major role in the outcome of this game.

N

orth Carolina, on the other hand, is arguably playing its worst football of the season. The Tar Heels have lost back-to-back games to Georgia Tech and NC State. Both losses came at home to fourth-string quarterbacks.

Drake Maye has been the ACC’s best passer all season, but North Carolina’s issues have limited his effectiveness over the past two weeks. He had just one total touchdown pass vs. the Yellow Jackets and Wolfpack. The Tar Heels will need a bounce-back performance from Maye and this UNC offense in order to pull off the upset.

Kickoff is at 8:00 p.m. ET on Saturday night.
