Every ACC program’s home record over the last five seasons

The best programs win their home games. The programs that consistently contend for national titles win their home games and give themselves some room for error away from home. Four different schools have won a national championship over the last five years, and three of those schools each have just a single home loss over the same time frame.

That includes the Clemson Tigers, who have been the best team in America when playing at home over the last five seasons.

In Death Valley, Clemson is 32-1 since 2018.

That could be highly informative when it comes to ACC Championship prognosticating. Florida State and North Carolina both have to come to Memorial Stadium.

So, which other ACC programs have been dominant at home? And who has struggled. Here are the home records for each team since 2018:

Clemson: 32-1

Only Alabama has matched Clemson’s 32 home victories over the last five seasons. A 31-30 loss to South Carolina last season snapped what was a 40-game home winning streak for the Tigers.

NC State: 28-6

The Wolfpack have won 18 of their last 20 home games — a stretch dating back to 2020. When it comes to those offseason “toughest stadiums to play in” rankings, Carter-Finley Stadium is often criminally underrated. Each of the last three years have featured ranked wins at home.

Notre Dame, Clemson, Miami, and North Carolina all play in Raleigh this fall, so more fireworks could be in store.

Virginia: 23-9

Surprise. The Cavaliers are here largely on the success of the front end of our timeframe. From 2018-20, Virginia went 17-2 in home games. In the two seasons since, UVa is just 6-7.

Under Bronco Mendenhall, Virginia was one of the ACC’s best home teams and one of its worst road teams. In Year 1 under Tony Elliott, both settings provided issues. Virginia went 2-4 at home last season, with wins against Richmond and Old Dominion.

Wake Forest: 22-9

Pitt: 23-10

Miami: 20-11

North Carolina: 19-11

Florida State: 20-13

Last season, FSU went 5-2 at home. Losses came against ranked Wake Forest and Clemson teams.

The Seminoles enter 2023 with hopes of making it to the College Football Playoff. If those dreams are to become reality, Florida State needs a perfect home record. Home games include Southern Miss, Virginia Tech, Syracuse, Duke, Miami, and North Alabama. Not a ton of CFP résumé builders in that group, but there are several résumé destroyers.

Louisville: 19-13

Syracuse: 18-14

Virginia Tech: 18-14

Boston College: 17-14

Duke: 15-15

Georgia Tech: 11-19
