Florida State and Miami are reportedly in the mix to land one of the top-rated quarterback transfers on the market.

Former 5-star quarterback Dante Moore officially entered the portal on Monday. According to 247Sports’ Allen Trieu, his recruitment is currently focused on FSU, Miami, Oregon and Michigan.

Moore is departing UCLA after one season with the program. Moore was the No. 5 overall player and the No. 3 quarterback in the country for the class of 2022, per 247Sports Composite rankings.

Moore’s ties to Michigan and Oregon make sense in the context of his high school recruitment. Moore is a Michigan native and he was committed to Oregon until very late in the 2023 recruiting cycle last December. He decommitted from Oregon on Dec. 19 and ended up signing with UCLA two days later.

Florida State and Miami were not actively involved in Moore’s recruitment late in the process, but either program could potentially offer him a starting job for the 2024 campaign. FSU doesn’t not have an obvious successor for Jordan Travis as his college eligibility has run out. Miami is in a similar situation with Tyler Van Dyke entering the transfer portal earlier this offseason.

Both FSU and Miami are expected to field strong rosters and contend for an ACC Championship in 2024.

There is no known timetable for Moore’s decision.
