Gary Gilmore, legendary Coastal Carolina HC, to retire following 2024 season, per report

Gary Gilmore, who has served as head baseball coach at Coastal Carolina since 1996, told SportsTalkSC Monday that 2024 will be his final season of coaching college baseball. The Carolina icon will retire following next season.

Coastal Carolina is obviously not in the ACC, but Gilmore’s impact on baseball in the state of Carolina, especially down in Conway, is enormous. he started as head coach at USC Aiken before taking the Coastal job in 1996. Since then, Coastal Carolina has regularly been one of the best teams on the Atlantic coast.

Gilmore’s Chanticleers are currently set to host a regional in the upcoming NCAA Tournament. As of Monday, May 29, Gilmore holds a career record of 1,293-653-5. Coastal Carolina won the College World Series National Championship in 2016, downing Arizona 4-3.

Coastal Carolina has cracked the NCAA Tournament field 18 times under Gilmore.
