Greg McElroy addresses how an ACC split would impact smaller programs

Greg McElroy doesn’t believe the potential split of the ACC would have a negative impact on smaller programs, such as Boston College, Louisville and Duke. At least in the near term.

The chatter at hand in recent weeks is not going to change the bottom line, because the larger programs that are looking for more money aren’t going to get it anytime soon, McElroy said.

McElroy took Louisville as an example, and pointed out the momentum the Cardinals have following the hire of Jeff Brohm. Brohm has done well in the transfer portal, and while the UofL basketball program has struggled recently, it’s shown potential over decades to be an appealing program. And the baseball program has had a sustained run of success.

“I’m not super concerned about the other 7 schools right now,” McElroy said. “But like we’ve talked about already about the “Magnificent 7,” if they decide to move, every one of those ACC schools would be in line to be picked up by say the Big 12.”

McElroy is not concerned about the other 7 programs in the ACC because they’re all solid, and have something to offer.
