Arizona State parted ways with Herm Edwards earlier this week following its home loss to Eastern Michigan in Week 3.

However, it seems Edwards may have been fighting an uphill battle. According to a report, Arizona State staffers were leaking info to other teams in an attempt to force a head coaching change.

The Athletic’s Doug Haller was first to report the news. Here’s an excerpt from his report:

“An opposing coach recently told The Athletic that it wasn’t hard to get intel on this season’s team because some within Arizona State athletics wanted a coaching change.”

Edwards was the second Power 5 head coach to be fired this season, joining Nebraska’s Scott Frost. Edwards was in his 5th season with the Sun Devils. He went 26-20 overall and 17-14 in Pac-12 play during his tenure.

Edwards initially survived a challenging offseason that was marred with player and coach turnover as well as an NCAA investigation into Arizona State’s recruiting practices during the pandemic.
