Boston College coach Jeff Hafley is setting a high bar for his third season in charge.
Hafley took the stage at the ACC Kickoff in Charlotte on Wednesday and made a bold proclamation: merely reaching a bowl game isn’t good enough.
The Eagles return quarterback Phil Jurkovec and a host of other key players in 2022. Jurkovec threw just 96 passes last season due to a thumb injury that kept him out for the first half of the season.
Even without Jurkovec, who has the upside to be one of the best passers in the ACC this season, Boston College reached 6 wins for a 6th straight season. But the Eagles haven’t won more than 7 games in a single campaign since 2009.
Hafley specifically said he wants to take more ownership over what the offense looks like this season.
Boston College’s schedule sets up for a big season if the Eagles are able to take advantage of their opportunities. BC is likely to be big underdogs in games vs. Notre Dame, Clemson, Florida State and NC State. But outside of those 4 contests, the Eagles likely won’t be out-classed in any particular matchup.
Winning games vs. Rutgers, Wake Forest, Louisville and Virginia Tech will be critical for Boston College to reach its lofty goals in 2022.
