Boston College loses at home to Rutgers

Boston College suffered a 22-21 loss to Rutgers at home on Saturday afternoon.

It’s a disappointing result after an offseason of optimism at Boston College. Quarterback Phil Jurkovec threw a pair of uncharacteristic interceptions a

nd Rutgers’ defense did just enough to hold off the Eagles’ offense.

Jurkovec also threw for 283 yards and 3 touchdowns, but Bosto

n College’s offense just wasn’t efficient enough overall. It averaged just 4.5 yards per play.

The main culprit was the running game. Boston College rushed for just 29 total yards. Jurkovec had -10 yards on 10 carries, including sacks. Patrick Garwo led the team with a disappointing 25 yards on 14 carries.

The inability to get anything going on the ground hurt Boston College’s ability to hold off the Scarlet Knights. Rutgers scored the final 10 points of the game and the only touchdown in the 4th quarter.

Boston College’s defense did its part, limiting Rutgers to just 5 yards per play on the afternoon. The Eagles’ defense also recorded an interception.

Boston College faces Virginia Tech in Week 2.
