Boston College starting left tackle could return for Florida State game

Boston College left tackle Ozzy Trapilo returned to practice after missing the last 2 games with a knee injury, coach Jeff Hafley announced Tuesday.

Trapilo, a redshirt sophomore, did not play against Virginia Tech or Maine. He was an important piece on Boston College’s offensive line in the season opener against Rutgers.

Boston College head coach Jeff Hafley spoke about Trapilo’s progress.

“He didn’t do everything, but he was out here today practicing,” Hafley said to reporters on Tuesday. “So I’m hopeful tomorrow we can ramp him up even more. Ramp him up even more on Thursday.”

Hafley recognized how important it will be to have Trapilo return this week.

“And then I’m hoping that we’ll have him back. That’s not a slight to any of the guys that we have in there right now, but I think everybody knows how important Ozzy is playing for us right now.”

Despite Trapilo not being in the lineup, Boston College handled Maine in a 21-point win. Boston College quarterback Phil Jurkovec passed for 320 yards and 2 touchdowns. Maine sacked Jurkovec 3 times in the game. If Trapilo played, he might have been able to limit the sacks to his quarterback.

In the 2 games without Trapilo, Boston College’s quarterbacks were sacked 8 times against Maine and Virginia Tech. As the week continues, Trapilo’s preparation will likely increase ahead of his return.

Boston College will hope to have Trapilo back for Saturday’s road game at Florida State.
