Boston College withdraws from military bowl due to COVID-19

Boston College’s season is over.

One day before the Eagles were supposed to face East Carolina, they were forced to withdraw from the Military Bowl due to an increased number of COVID-19 cases.

“Unfortunately, due to cases of COVID-19 rising within our program since our arrival, along with season-ending injuries, opt outs and transfers, we just do not have enough players to field a team,” athletic director Pat Kraft said in a release

. “We are disappointed not to be able to finish the season together as a team, but the health and safety of our program is our highest priority. Steve Beck and his Military Bowl staff put on a great week for our team and we are thankful for everything they did t

o make us feel at home during our stay in Washington, D.C.”

This means Boston College will end the season with a 6-6 record. The Eagles were competitive again this season, especially when starting quarterback Phil Jurkovec was healthy.

They continued to make strides in Year 2 under coach Jeff Hafley. The season was highlighted by an overtime win over Missouri in September and a dominant victory over Virginia Tech in early November.

Hafley is 12-11 in two seasons at the helm.
