Boston College WR Zay Flowers announces decision to return for 2022 season

Boston College star receiver Zay Flowers will be back in 2022.

Flowers made that announcement on his Instagram account on Tuesday. He’s already been a high-level contributor for the Eagles for the last three seasons, and will have a chance to move into rare territory in Boston College’s record books next season.

For his career, Flowers has 122 receptions, 1,979 yards and 17 touchdowns across three seasons with Boston College. He will enter next season in 12th, 10th and 5th, respectively, in those categories for a career at Boston College.

He would need to have 70 receptions for 822 yards and 12 touchdowns in order to break e

ach of those records. Those are lofty numbers, but not impossible to reach.

That’s especially true given that starting quarterback Phil Jurkovec is also returning to Boston College next season. Jurkovec missed most of the 2021 season with an injury, but Flowers still racked up 746 yards and 5 touchdowns.

Boston College will have an opportunity next year to build on the momentum its created in its first two seasons of the Jeff Hafley era. The Eagles have reached 6 regular season wins in each of Hafley’s first two seasons at the helm.

BC will face East Carolina in the Military Bowl on Dec. 27.
