Dabo Swinney on Boston College's red bandana game: 'It's an amazing tribute'
Clemson is set to face Boston College this weekend as the Eagles play in their annual ‘red bandana game.’
The red bandana tradition honors former Boston College lacrosse player Welles Crowther. He became known as the “man in the red bandana” after heroically saving multiple lives during the Sept. 11 attack. Crowther passed away on that day.
On Tuesday, Clemson coach Dabo Swinney acknowledged the importance of the “amazing tribute” and said he keeps a red bandana in his brief case.
“It’s been in my brief case for years,” Swinney said. “One of those things that’s stuck down in there—every time I go to find my charger, I see the red bandana. It’s just something I’ve always held on to.”
Clemson HC Dabo Swinney on BC's Red Bandana Game, which honors Welles Crowther annually: "It’s an amazing tribute that they do for him. I’ve had the opportunity to meet his family. In fact, I still have a red bandana. It’s in my brief case."

Swinney: "I have a lot of admiration for who [Welles] was but also just his family and then just how Boston College has shined that light on that sacrifice, year in and year out."
