Earl Grant reportedly receives contract extension as solid rebuild continues

Earl Grant continues to rebuild Boston College, and for his progress, the school reportedly will hand the coach a contract extension.

Pete Thamel of ESPN reported that Grant would receive a 2-year extension through the 2028-29 season. H

e led BC to 9 ACC wins this year, the most since 2010-11. The Eagles were 9-11 in the ACC, and 16-17 overall. In the ACC Tournament, BC beat Louisville, and then lost to North Carolina.

Grant was hired in 2021 after former coach Jim Christian led BC to just one winning season i

n 7 campaigns and never broke .500 — or even .400 — in the ACC. The Eagles were 13-20 and 6-14 in the ACC in Chrisitan’s final season, but couldn’t snap the streak of 13 straight seasons without reaching the NCAA Tournament.

In Grant’s first year, the returning players represented just 27% of the minutes played the previous season, and that set the rebuild in motion.

This year, BC beat No. 6 Virginia in February after it had already beat Virginia Tech and Clemson this season when they were ranked. The Eagles hadn’t beaten 3 ranked teams in a season since 2008-09.
