2023 safety prospect decommits from program shortly after receiving Clemson offer

3-star safety prospect Khalil Barnes decommitted from Wake Forest on Monday.

The decision comes just days after he received an offer from Clemson. Here’s his announcement:

Barnes is a Georgia native who has gone somewhat under-the-radar so far during his recruiting process. He’s the No. 934 overall player in the class of 2023, per 247Sports Composite rankings

.

Despite the relatively low ranking, Clemson obviously sees a lot of potential in what Barnes can develop into. The Tigers offered him a scholarship back on Sept. 22.

Two days after that offer was made, Clemson beat Wake Forest in Winston-Salem.

Barnes told On3 that Clemson is “one of the leaders”

in his recruitment. Barnes also has offers from Purdue and Kansas State. He could continue to receive more interest with his recruitment being fully open.

Clemson continues to recruit well in the class of 2023. The Tigers have 20 commitments in this class and the group ranks No. 8 nationally, according to 247Sports Composite rankings.
