Clemson landed 3 players on The Athletic’s “freak list,” which annually spotlights 100 of the best athletes in all of college football.

The list of players shouldn’t be surprising: defensive end Myles Murphy, defensive tackle Bryan Bresee and linebacker Trenton Simpson.

Murphy is one of the elite players on this list, landing at No. 3 overall. His athleticism showed up in his production last season as he recorded 14.5 tackles for loss and 8 sacks as a sophomore. According to Feldman, Murphy is viewed as a better NFL prospect than former Clemson defensive lineman Clelin Ferrell.

Michigan’s Mazi Smith and Ohio State’s Marvin Harrison Jr. are the only players to rank above Murphy.

Bresee is a former No. 1 overall prospect who is coming off a season-ending knee injury in 2021. Despite that setback, Bresee reportedly can bench 435 pounds and run a 40-yard dash in the neighborhood of 4.7 seconds. He’s listed at 6-foot-5, 310 pounds. He’s at No. 14 in Feldman’s “freak list.”

Simpson is arguably Clemson’s best linebacker prospect and comes in at No. 29 on this list. Listed at 6-foot-3, 240 pounds, Simpson can reportedly run a 40-yard dash in the 4.3s. He made 65 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks last season.

Clemson’s defense also has impressive athletes such as Xavier Thomas, KJ Henry, Tyler Davis and Andrew Mukuba.

The Tigers open the 2022 season with Georgia Tech on Sept. 5.
