Clemson linebacker Trenton Simpson continues to pick up preseason accolades.

ACC Network analyst Eric Mac Lain ranked the ACC’s outside linebackers earlier this week, and Simpson came in at No. 1 on the list. Simpson beat out NC State’s Drake Thomas for the top spot.

Here’s Mac Lain’s full top 5:

Syracuse’s Mikel Jones, Louisville’s Yasir Abdullah and North Carolina’s Noah Taylor round out the top 5.

Simpson has put together 2 very impressive seasons so far with the Tigers. Last year, he racked up 12.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks. He’s also Clemson’s leading tackler amongst returners.

He’s also one of the best pure athletes in the country and is a potential first round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Simpson leads a defense that’s expected to be one of the best units in the country — especially in the front 7. Myles Murphy, Bryan Bresee, Xavier Thomas, KJ Henry, Tyler Davis and Ruke Orhorhoro are all back for this season.

Clemson opens the 2022 campaign with Georgia Tech on Sept. 5.
