There’s no doubt that Clemson has a few questions it needs to answer offensively in 2022.

The entire offense struggled with injuries and inconsistency last season, including former 5-star quarterback DJ Uiagalelei. But apparently rival ACC coaching staffs aren’t expecting the Tigers to improve this season.

On Wednesday, AthlonSports published numerous anonymous quotes about each ACC team from opposing coaches within the conference. The scouting reports varied from complimentary-to-critical for most teams, but the Tigers received more of the latter.

That’s especially true when opposing coaches discussed Clemson’s offense. Here’s what they had to say:

“I don’t think the QB is a great player. They thought he was when Trevor [Lawrence] was out against Notre Dame, and maybe that fooled them? It’s not out of the question that they change guys. They’re also not as good around him. They haven’t evaluated as well at OL like other positions.”

“The receivers have fallen off; when they were really rolling and winning nattys, that position flat-out scared you. Now they’re league average, same as at running back.”

If you’re keeping count, those 2 comments managed to criticize every aspect of Clemson’s offense.

The Tigers’ receiving corps did struggle last season, but players like Joseph Ngata, Beaux Collins, Dacari Collins and Brennon Spector are now all healthy for 2022. Clemson’s running back room was full of freshman last season, but rising sophomore Will Shipley is now considered to be amongst the best in the conference.

Clemson’s offensive line also returns a lot of experience along its offensive line, including All-America candidate Jordan McFadden at left tackle. Walker Parks, Will Putnam and Marcus Tate are all back this season as well.

Uiagalelei will need to improve in 2022 in order for Clemson to reach its peak offensively. He threw for 9 touchdowns and 10 interceptions last season. But if the Tigers’ supporting cast improves, there should be reason for optimism around Uiagalelei’s 2022 campaign.

Clemson opens this season with Georgia Tech on Sept. 5.
