Back to Clemson? Brent Venables is getting roasted after Oklahoma’s nightmare 1st half vs. Texas

It’s too early to put him on the hot seat, but Oklahoma’s Brent Venables is officially on fraud watch entering the 2nd half of the Red River Showdown.

After starting the year off 3-0, Oklahoma dropped back-to-back games to Kansas State and TCU. Now, the Sooners are down 28-0 to Texas at halftime.

Venables, who spent 10 seasons at Clemson as the Tigers’ defensive coordinator, was expected to fortify the Sooners after Lincoln Riley departed for USC last offseason. And while the offense has had its moments of promise, the defense has been atrocious.

In the previous 10 quarters, the Sooners have allowed 124 total points. For the first time since 1984, the Longhorns have pitched a first-half shutout against Oklahoma.

Again, it’s too soon to tell if Venables will be able to fix the flaws, but Twitter is ready to call it quits. Fans on social media went full throttle on Venables’ future with the program.

Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers came out swinging for the first time since suffering a shoulder injury in Week 2 against Alabama. Through 2 quarters, Ewers has completed 16-of-22 passes for 211 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Oklahoma will receive the ball to begin the second half.
