Brandon Streeter passionately defends DJ Uiagalelei after South Carolina loss

Brandon Streeter was quick to defend Clemson quarterback DJ Uiagalelei after the team’s 31-30 loss to South Carolina on Saturday.

Uiagalelei had a rough day through the air. He completed just 8-of-29 passes for 99 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He also missed a key third down throw late in the game in what ultimately was Clemson’s last chance to take the lead.

After the game, Streeter was asked if Clemson considered making a quarterback change against the Gamecocks.

“No, DJ’s been our leader, man,” he responded

. “He’s been a guy. Look, there were a lot of drops today. That ain’t freakin’ DJ’s fault. There’s other people on the field, you know? It’s not just DJ.”

Clemson’s receivers did struggle v

s. the Gamecocks. Antonio Williams caught just two of his eight targets. Joseph Ngata hauled in only one of six targets on the day. Williams also lost a fumble on a punt return with just over two minutes remaining, effectively ending the game.

Clemson still has one more game to prepare for before bowl season. The Tigers will play against North Carolina next weekend in the ACC Championship Game. The Tar Heels are also reeling, having lost two straight games to end the regular season.
