Brent Venables goes on recruiting visit for Clemson despite rumors about Oklahoma job

While Brent Venables remains a candidate for the head coaching job at Oklahoma, he’s still recruiting for Clemson as of Tuesday afternoon.

Venables was in Hays, Kansas to see 4-star athlete Jaran Kanak. He was joined by coach Dabo Swinney as well. Sunday marked the first day that coaches could make in-home visits for prospects in the class of 2022.

Prior to coming to Clemson, Venables was a longtime staffer at Oklahoma. He was with the Sooners from 1999-2011 and had varying levels of success as their defensive coordinator.

Venables has turned down numerous head coaching opportunities over t

he last decade while at Clemson. However, it’s possible a reunion in Norman would be intriguing to him.

His time in Norman overlapped with athletic director Joe Castiglione and OU interim head coach Bob Stoops. Venables also worked with Stoops at Kansas State in the 1990s.

Clemson finished its regular season last week at 9-3. The Tigers ended the year with a 30-0 victory over South Carolina.
