CBS Sports has named Clemson as the top front 7 in all of college football for the 2022 season.

The Tigers return several All-America candidates along their front, including Myles Murphy, Xavier Thomas, Trenton Simpson and K.J. Henry. They also get back high-potential pass rushers like Ruke Orhorhoro and Bryan Bresee.

Here’s an excerpt of analysis from CBS Sports’ Barrett Sallee:

If coach Dabo Swinney’s crew is going to get back to the top of the college football world this year, it’ll be on the heels of one of the best defenses — personnel-wise — that he’s ever produced. Superstar Bryan Bresee will anchor the middle of the line of scrimmage and, when healthy, is the top defensive lineman in the country. Add Xavier Thomas and K.J. Henry at edge, and the line should be devastating.

Overall, Clemson returns over 85% of its sacks from last season and 82% of its tackles for loss. Add Bresee — a former 5-star who played sparingly last year due to injury — and Clemson could have something special this season.

For all the continuity Clemson is bringing back on its roster, the Tigers do have some big shoes to fill. Cornerbacks Mario Goodrich and Andrew Booth Jr. are both in the NFL now after sweeping 1st team All-ACC honors last season.

Clemson will also be without longtime defensive coordinator Brent Venables, who left for the Oklahoma job this offseason. Venables was replaced by co-defensive coordinators Wes Goodwin and Mickey Conn.
