Clemson basketball is 8-0 on the season after downing previously undefeated South Carolina, 72-67.

The Tigers were able to down a surprisingly good Gamecocks team with balanced scoring and great defense. Five Tigers scored in double digits Wednesday night, led by Chauncey Wiggins with 15 points, 2 assists and a rebound.

PJ Hall might have had the best game of any Tiger, though. He finished 2nd in scoring with 14 points and added 8 rebounds, 4 blocks and 3 assists with 0 turnovers.

This is Clemson basketball’s best start to a season since 2008-09, when the Tigers started the year 16-0 with wins over Miami and Illinois. The Tigers finished that season with a 7-seed and a first-round exit.

This Tigers team feels a little different. Clemson has downed Alabama, Pitt and Boise State to go alongside Wednesday’s win over a South Carolina team that was picked to finish last in the SEC, but started the year very strong with wins over Virginia Tech and Grand Canyon, which is currently 7-1.

All that to say: This Clemson team is legit. The No. 24 Tigers will continue their quest to remain undefeated this Saturday against East Carolina.
