Clemson won a major recruiting battle on Friday morning.

The Tigers earned a commitment from 3-star athlete Khalil Barnes. He picked Clemson over fellow finalists Notre Dame and Oklahoma.

Barnes made the announcement in a ceremony at his high school. Here’s video:

Barnes is a major addition for Clemson. He was a relatively late offer for the Tigers in the class of 2023, but he has emerged as one of the more intriguing athletes in the country. Barnes was previously committed to Wake Forest.

He ranks as the No. 51 athlete in the class of 2023, per 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s expected to play on the defensive side of the ball for Clemson.

Listed at 6-foot-1, 185 pounds, Barnes is a versatile athlete who could find his way onto Clemson’s depth chart at safety sooner rather than later. He played his high school ball at North Oconee High School in Bogart, Georgia.

Clemson’s 2023 recruiting class ranks No. 11 nationally, according to 247Sports Composite rankings. That’s good enough for the No. 2 class in the ACC behind only Miami.
