Clemson got 29 points and 10 rebounds from forward Hunter Tyson and double-digit points from every other starter to power a 91-73 blowout win over Syracuse at Littlejohn Coliseum Wednesday night.

The win was Clemson’s 20th overall on the season and its 12th in ACC play. Before this year, Clemson had never won more than 11 ACC games in a single season.

“Twenty wins is still a lot to be proud of,” said

coach Brad Brownell after the game, per The Post and Courier’s Jon Blau. These kids have put in a lot of time and effort and hung in there and we dealt with some injuries and guys have kept swinging. I’m proud of this group.”

Clemson, which opened the season 18-4, had lost 4 of its last 5 games. A 10-point loss to Lousiville last Saturday marked a low point, with the Cardinals entering that game at 3-23 on the year.

But in Clemson’s return to the court, it shot 52% from the field, won the rebounding battle by 10, won the turnover battle, and registered 28 assists on 34 made shots. In so many ways it was a much-needed injection of confidence as the Tigers head into a closing stretch that features road games against NC State and Virginia and a Senior Day showdown with Notre Dame.

“It’s not like we’re not trying, I thought we’ve played better than our record has showed in the last 5 games but other teams have finished some games on us,” Brownell said

, per Blau. “We need to play good basketball, really good basketball. All those other things will take care of themselves. But it starts with playing really good basketball and having a collective spirit as a group.”

Netting a program record in a demolition isn’t a bad way to boost that spirit.
