Clemson defensive lineman Xavier Thomas announced his intentions to return to school for the 2022 season.

Thomas was previously expected to leave for the 2022 NFL Draft. Here’s his announcement:

“It is truly a blessing to have an opportunity for the 2022 NFL Draft,” Thomas wrote. “However, I am very aware of my potential and there is a lot more work to do.

“Patience is a virtue and I refuse to sell myself short.”

Thomas is coming off a career season for the Tigers. He recorded 6.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks for Clemson in 2021, which was his fourth collegiate season. He has an extra year of eligibility due to COVID-19.

This means Clemson will return virtually all of its defensive front next season. Myles Murphy, Trenton Simpson, Ruke Orhorhoro and KJ Henry are all expected back in 2022 and all racked up at least 6.5 tackles for loss last season.

Clemson also gets back former 5-star recruit Bryan Bresee, who missed most of the 2021 season with an injury.

The Tigers ended the 2021 season on a six game winning streak. They finished the year with a win over Iowa State in the Cheez-It Bowl, giving them 10 wins on the season. Clemson has won 10+ games every season since 2011.
