Clemson defensive back Myles Oliver will be out for the 2022 season, coach Dabo Swinney announced on Wednesday night.

Oliver is set to undergo shoulder surgery for an injury he sustained this offseason.

Swinney noted that Oliver was likely to redshirt this season regardless. Oliver was a 3-star recruit from Douglasville, Georgia, in the class of 2022. He was the No. 73 cornerback in the country for his cycle, per 247Sports Composite rankings.

Clemson has plenty of depth at corner back. Sheridan Jones and Nate Wiggins are expected to take over the starting roles this season, but the Tigers also have players like Fred Davis II, Toriano Pride and Jeadyn Lukus who could be ready to contribute this season.

Clemson is relatively healthy so far during fall camp. Defensive lineman Tré Williams is nursing a leg injury, but he’s not expected to miss significant time during the season. Receiver Adam Randall could also be back sooner-than-expected after tearing his ACL in the spring.

The Tigers open the 2022 season with Georgia Tech on Sept. 5.
