Clemson linebacker Trenton Simpson is expecting a career year this upcoming season.

Last year, he totaled 12.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks — impressive numbers for a sophomore who entered the year without huge expectations.

But now, Simpson is setting his sights even higher. He Tweeted on Saturday afternoon that he’s targeting 10+ sacks this upcoming season.

Simpson will be one of the primary contributors in Clemson’s front 7, which projects to be amongst the best in the country. The Tigers also return players like Myles Murphy, Xavier Thomas and KJ Henry from a year ago. Former 5-star defensive lineman Bryan Bresee is also expected to make a bigger impact after recovering from a season-ending injury last year.

Clemson will need its front 7 to be disruptive as it replaces its 2 starting cornerbacks from last season. Both Mario Goodrich and Andrew Booth Jr. are off to the NFL after turning in All-ACC performances last season.

Clemson opens the 2022 season with Georgia Tech on Sept. 5.
