Clemson loses commitment from 4-star offensive lineman

Clemson lost a commitment from 4-star offensive tackle Zechariah Owens on Thursday morning, according to multiple reports.

Owens told reporters with 247Sports and On3 that he is re-opening his recruitment.

“The reason why I decommitted was for my family’s sake,” Owens told On3

. I have nothing against Clemson at all. I just want to be near and close to my family where ever they go and stick beside them I chose Clemson at first because of the family atmosphere. I’ve had to put my own before that. I’m sorry if I let any fans or supporters down. Thank you for being beside me and I hope you all support my decision.”

Owens is from McDonough, Georgia. He is a big loss for Clemsons’ 2023 recruiting class.

Owens is ranked No. 191 overall and No. 18 nationally, according to 247Sports Composite rankings

. He had been committed to Clemson since July 5.

Clemson is now down to 2 offensive line commits in this class: 4-star Harris Sewell and 4-star Ian Reed. The Tigers will likely look to add to that list before the Early Signing Period in December.
