Phommachanh has served as one of Clemson’s backup quarterbacks since 2019. He’s mostly been used as a runner during that time, gaining 150 yards and 1 touchdown on 30 attempts. He’s also completed 22-of-48 passes for 204 yards, 1 touchdown and 3 interceptions.
He was a consensus 4-star prospect in the class of 2019. Most of his playing time at Clemson came this season, as he threw for 131 yards and the only touchdown of his career in 2021.
He’s originally from Bridgeport, Connecticut. It’s currently unclear where he might be targeting as a destination in the transfer portal.
His transfer, along with multiple other Clemson players in the last week, could lead the Tigers to be more active in the portal this offseason. Clemson’s 2022 recruiting class also currently has just 14 commitments with the Early Signing Period set to begin in less than two weeks.
