Clemson starting linebacker Barrett Carter will not play vs. Syracuse on Saturday, according to a report.

That’s per TigersIllustrated’s Larry Williams, who reports that Carter is dealing with a concussion. Carter has started Clemson’s 7 previous games this season.

Malcolm Greene and Wade Woodaz are listed as co-backups for Carter’s position, which is a nickel back/SAM linebacker hybrid. The Tigers could turn to either of those players to fill the role vs. Syracuse. Greene has missed a few games this season due to an injury but he did play vs. Florida State last weekend.

Clemson also has the option of turning to Trenton Simpson, who played in this role last year. Simpson has since moved to WILL linebacker.

In any case, Carter is a big loss for a Clemson defense that appeared to finally bet getting healthy. Carter is third on the team with 34 total tackles. He also has 4 tackles for loss, 2 sacks and 1 interception.

Clemson and Syracuse are battling for first place in the Atlantic division.

Kickoff is at 12:00 p.m. ET on Saturday afternoon.
