Clemson defensive lineman Xavier Thomas will not play on Saturday night vs. Miami, according to a report.

That news was first shared by Tigers Illustrated’s Larry Williams, who cited a program source.

Thomas is a big loss for the Tigers. He’s in his sixth season with the program and has been very impactful as a pass rusher so far in 2023. He’s already recorded 2 sacks and 3 tackles for loss on the year.

This is a big game for Clemson, who is looking to avoid its third ACC loss of the season on Saturday vs. the Canes. The Tigers will be facing a Miami offense that has been much-improved this season under new OC Shannon Dawson.

Miami quarterback Tyler Van Dyke is also questionable for this game. If Van Dyke can’t go, true freshman Emory Williams is expected to get the start in his place. Putting pressure on Van Dyke (or Williams) is likely a major part of Clemson’s defensive game plan in this game.

Without Thomas, Clemson will lean on other pass rushers such as TJ Parker and Justin Mascoll.

Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. ET on Saturday night.
