Dabo Swinney gives update on Justyn Ross’ injury status, future at Clemson

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney confirmed Wednesday evening that star receiver Justyn Ross will have surgery to repair his injured left foot.

He said Ross’ status for a bowl game is uncertain. However, Swinney was more committal with Ross’ longterm future.

“He doesn’t need another season here,” Swinney told reporters on Wednesday. “He’s going pro … He’s more than ready.”

This is Ross’ third full season with Clemson, not including the 2020 campaign which he missed due to injury. So far this year, Ross has 47 catches for 524 yards and 3 touchdowns.

However, Ross’ college career will be best-remembered for his 1000-yard campaign as a freshman — and how it ended. H

e caught 6 passes for 153 yards and 1 touchdown in Clemson’s 2018 National Championship win over Alabama. Ross also scored twice in Clemson’s semifinal win over Notre Dame that season.

Given his injury history, it’s unclear what Ross’ draft stock will be going into next year.

Clemson still has two regular season games remaining this year and has an outside shot of making it to the ACC Championship Game. The Tigers host Wake Forest on Saturday.
