Dabo Swinney is looking for better play from Clemson quarterback DJ Uiagalelei.

Swinney spoke about Uiagalelei’s recent struggles. He hinted at a short leash for Uiagalelei.

“If he doesn’t play better, we’ve got to give somebody else a chance,” Swinney told reporters on Tuesday. “That’s just where we are.”

This warning came after Uiagalelei struggled in the 35-14 loss to Notre Dame. Uiagalelei finished the game with 191 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception. His only passing touchdown came in the 4th quarter, which happened after Clemson’s offense was shutout for the 1st 3 quarters.

Uiagalelei’s performance played a part in the loss and his head coach put him on notice. Since the start of the season, Uiagalelei has faced scrutiny from the public and his Week 10 performance added more pressure.

If Clemson does decide to make a switch, it will be true freshman quarterback Cade Klubnik who gets the nod.

Clemson will look to get a good outing from Uiagalelei against Louisville on Saturday.
