Dabo Swinney is not going to beat around the bush when it comes to the issues facing college football. In fact, Clemson’s longtime head coach believes there is a clear problem that is the biggest in the sport.

Speaking during a Thursday teleconference, Swinney downplayed the transfer portal and Name, Image and Likeness deals as problems in college football. Instead, he pointed to roster tampering as the biggest issue facing the sport.

Swinney also believes that the issue is fixable if “football people” were allowed to address the matter:

In this era of transfer portal mayhem, there are regular rumblings of players being coerced to hit the portal from other programs. However, claims of tampering have not led to much change or impact in recent seasons.

We’ll see if the NCAA comes up with a way to address tampering down the road.
