Desmond Howard explains why he's optimistic about Clemson
Desmond Howard like Clemson in 2022.
He spoke at length about the Tigers on Saturday morning’s episode of College GameDay. He acknowledged some early-season concerns — especially on the defensive side of the ball — but said he believes Clemson is trending up.
“I like what I see coming from Clemson so far,” Howard said. “As a team, you don’t want to peak at the wrong time. Some teams, they start off on fire and then they kind of fizzle out. Clemson is the opposite. They started off, people were doubting them … but now they’re starting to trend in the right direction. Not just offensively, but defensively too. After that Wake Forest game, their secondary was exposed. They were put on blast. Now it seems like they’re starting to get it. They’re starting to understand expectations.”
Howard picked Clemson to beat Florida State on the road on Saturday night. It would be Clemson’s seventh straight win over the Noles.
It would also be Clemson’s seventh win of the season. The Tigers are 6-0 so far and have a résumé that includes ranked wins over Wake Forest and NC State.
Clemson is the heavy favorite to win the ACC Atlantic division title. The Tigers also have a good chance to make the College Football Playoff — especially if they can continue to win big games against teams like Florida State.
Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
