DJ Uiagalelei has decided to enter the transfer portal, according to multiple reports.

247Sports’ Chris Hummer was first to report that decision. This ends Uiagalelei’s two-year run as Clemson’s starting quarterback.

He was lifted in the first quarter of Clemson’s blowout win over North Carolina in the ACC Championship Game on Saturday night. True freshman Cade Klubnik entered the game for the team’s third series, and the Tigers never looked back.

Klubnik led Clemson to a 39-10 victory and threw for 279 yards against the Tar Heels. After the game, coach Dabo Swinney said Klubnik would be the team’s starter moving forward.

In his Clemson career, Uiagalelei completed 59.8% of his passes for 5,681 yards, 36 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. Most of that production has come over the past two seasons. Uiagalelei led Clemson to double-digit wins in each of his two seasons as the starter.

Klubnik is expected to lead the Clemson offense when the Tigers face Tennessee in the Orange Bowl later this month. Looking ahead to next season, the Tigers have 4-star quarterback Christopher Vizzina coming in their 2023 recruiting class. It’s unclear if Clemson intends to add a backup QB through the transfer portal this offseason.

Uiagalelei will have two years of eligibility remaining at his next destination. The transfer portal officially opens on Monday.
