Freshman QB Cade Klubnik impresses in Clemson’s spring game

Clemson freshman quarterback Cade Klubnik played well in the Tigers’ spring game on Saturday afternoon.

His performance was headlined by a touchdown pass to Hamp Greene in the second half. That score gave his White team a 12-7, which was enough to eventually secure the win.

Klubnik went 15-of-23 for 126 yards and 1 touchdown. He led his team to a 15-7 victory.

Klubnik is competing with incumbent D.J. Uiagalelei for the starting job. Uiagalelei also had a solid day, but led the Tigers on just one scoring drive. Uiagalelei finished the game 17-of-36 for 175 yards and 1 interception. Phil Mafah scored the Orange team’s only touchdown.

Coach Dabo Swinney was participating in the broadcast during the game and was very complimentary of Klubnik’s spring.

“Yeah, he’s gonna be a good one,” Swinney said on the broadcast. “He’s still developing physically … I think by August, he’s physically going to be in good shape.”

Swinney later praised Klubnik for his mobility outside of the pocket.

Here’s some of the reaction to Klubnik’s first spring game with Clemson:
