Few people know Garrett Riley better than Lincoln Riley. The older brother of the new Clemson offensive coordinator recently talked to Jon Blau of The Post and Courier about what Tiger fans can expect from the new play-caller.

Garrett joins the Clemson staff at just 33 years old. Lincoln says that despite Garrett’s relative youth in the coaching world, the new Clemson OC will be fully confident in his offensive system working like it did for TCU in 2022.

“They’re gonna get a confident guy that has a core set of beliefs both in how you coach and what you do schematically that he really believes. A lot of those have withstood the test of time. They work, and he knows it and knows if they do it well, that great results are gonna come,” Lincoln said. “I think he brings a lot of confidence and natural ability to that position, and that’s gonna rub off on the players and other coaches.

“Once you start to have some of that success, other people will see it. That combined with the great staff they’ve already got there and obviously a lot of really, really talented football players, Clemson fans should be very excited.

The Riley brothers walked on at Texas Tech under Mike Leach and last worked together at East Carolina on Ruffin McNeill’s staff. Lincoln revealed that while he was at ECU, he would have loved the chance to be Clemson’s coordinator. Now, the USC coach has a reason to pull for the Tigers.

“It’s gonna be a lot of fun to watch and — I can promise you — they will be my second favorite college football team.”
