No. 4 national seed Clemson eliminated from NCAA Tournament following loss to Charlotte

Clemson’s 2023 baseball season has come to an end following back-to-back heartbreaking losses over a short time period. The Tigers were eliminated from the 2023 NCAA Tournament Sunday following a 3-2 loss to Charlotte.

Clemson earned the No. 4 national seed by winning 16-straight entering the NCAA Tournament. The streak was extended to 17 games, but everything came crashing down over less than 24 hours.

First, there was the soul-crushing extra-innings loss to Tennessee

late Saturday. The 6-5 defeat in 14 innings put Clemson in the loser’s bracket.

The Tigers faced a quick turnaround, with Sunday’s elimination game set for a noon first pitch. Things got off to a good start for Erik Bakich’s team. Clemson scored in the 1st and 2nd innings to take a 2-0 lead.

Unfortunately, the Tigers did not score in the final 7 innings. Charlotte scored a run in the 3rd inning without a hit. In the 7th inning, the 49ers took a 3-2 lead, which would be the game’s final score.

Clemson ends 2023 with a 44-19 record.
