Paul Finebaum says ACC's Playoff hopes are over if Clemson loses to Wake Forest
ESPN’s Paul Finebaum believes the ACC’s College Football Playoff hopes are over if Clemson loses at Wake Forest on Saturday.
The Tigers, who are favored by more than a touchdown vs. the Demon Deacons, are heavy favorites to win the ACC again this season. But with Miami’s loss to Texas A&M and North Carolina’s struggles on defense, Finebaum believes Clemson is the ACC’s only real option for the Playoff.
“If they lose this game, it’s over. I don’t care what South Carolina does, don’t care what Notre Dame does, just cross off the ACC,” Finebaum said on ‘Get Up’ on Wednesday morning. “And say a prayer for them.
“Clemson really is their shot. North Carolina is still cobbling a season together, but I’m just saving the folks in the back room the research … don’t worry about it. If Clemson loses, move on.”
Clemson is the only ACC program to reach the College Football Playoff since Florida State did so in 2014. The Tigers made it to 6 consecutive CFP’s before missing out last season.
Both Clemson and Wake Forest enter their Week 4 matchup with an undefeated record.
Kickoff is at 12 p.m. ET on Saturday.
