Will Taylor, Clemson WR and outfielder, makes history as dual-sport ACC champion

Will Taylor pulled off a rare feat as a dual-sport ACC champion for the 2022-23 season.

Taylor, a reserve wide receiver on the football team, won the ACC title in 2022 with the Tigers. This past weekend, he repeated that accomplishment as Clemson baseball took home the ACC Tournament crown with a win over Miami.

According to former Clemson SID Tim Bourret, Taylor is the first Clemson athlete to win multiple ACC championships in the same academic year since James Trapp in 1991-92.

He’s also the first Tigers athlete to pull off the football/baseball combo since Rusty Charpia in 1988-89, per Bourret.

Taylor was a major part of Clemson baseball’s run to the ACC title. He hit .362 this season and posted an OPS of 1.016.

He has a more modest role with the football program, but that could be increasing in 2023. Last season, Taylor caught 5 passes for 16 yards and 1 touchdown. He caught a pair of passes in Clemson’s win over UNC in the ACC Championship Game.

Taylor was also a primary option at punt returner for Clemson last season. He returned 10 punts for 26 yards.

Clemson baseball will host a regional this week as it begins the NCAA Tournament. The Tigers will face Lipscomb to open their regional on Friday, June 2.
