Duke adds talented guard transfer from Illinois

Duke added an intriguing piece to its 2022-23 team on Saturday afternoon.

Jon Scheyer earned a commitment from former Illinois transfer Jacob Grandison, who takes the place of the outgoing Joey Baker on Duke’s roster.

Here’s Grandison’s announcement:

Grandison is a college basketball veteran. This will be his third program and sixth season of college hoops. He started out at Holy Cross before spending the last three years (including a sit-out year) with the Illini.

Listed at 6-foot-6, Grandison is a versatile wing who has proven to be a quality shooter and defender. Last season, he made 41% of his 3-point attempts on a volume of 4.5 shots per contest. He a

lso averaged 3.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.

It’s difficult to pinpoint where Grandison will fit into Duke’s rotation, but he certainly should see some playing time. All of Duke’s key players from last season opted to enter the draft, with the exception of point guard Jeremy Roach.

The Blue Devils are bringing in the No. 1 recruiting class in the country, but Grandison’s combination of experience and skill should still earn him some playing time.
