Duke coach Jon Scheyer has officially promoted Amile Jefferson into one of the Blue Devils’ two vacant assistant coaching positions.

Jefferson joined Duke last season as the director of player development. Of course, he played for Duke and was a member of Mike Krzyzewski’s last National Championship team in 2015.

Here’s the announcement:

“I’m deeply honored and excited to be here and be a part of this team that Jon Scheyer is building,” Jefferson said in a statement. “I feel a special bond and connection to Durham, our fans and our entire Duke family. Being here means the world to me.”

Duke has two assistant jobs to fill this offseason. One was vacated after Scheyer took over as head coach. The other opened after Nolan Smith left for Louisville earlier this week.

Scheyer has also hired former Elon coach Mike Schrage this offseason, but he will be in an off-court role.
