Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski will miss its matchup with Wake Forest due to a non-COVID-19 virus, the program announced on Wednesday afternoon.

Jon Scheyer will serve as acting head coach. It figures to be a big opportunity for him as he prepares to officially take the head coaching job next season.

This will be Krzyzewski’s first missed game this season. However, the Blue Devils have been dealing with illness for several weeks now. They were forced to postpone two ACC games in late December due to COVID-19.

Since returning from that pause, Duke is 1-1 with a win over Virginia Tech and a home loss to Miami. The Blue Devils turned it over 17 times vs. the Canes over the weekend.

Duke is still on track to be a top seed in the NCAA Tournament, but its margin for error is thinning. The ACC struggled in nonconference play and it’s unclear how much credibility it will have on Selection Sunday.

Wake Forest has been one of the bigger surprises of the season so far. Led by Alondes Williams, the Demon Deacons are 13-3 overall and are on the NCAA Tournament bubble. Williams is averaging 20.1 points per game.

Tipoff is at 7:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
