Duke football ended its season on a high note Saturday afternoon, downing Troy in the Birmingham Bowl to finish the year 8-5.
The Blue Devils and starting QB Grayson Loftis jumped to an unorthodox 11-0 lead over the Trojans before making it 14-0 just before the end of the first half. The Trojans scored a touchdown late in the 4th quarter but didn’t have enough in the tank for another touchdown drive.
Loftis did not have his best performance, but did enough to win in lieu of usual starter Riley Leonard, who opted out after entering the transfer portal. Loftis threw for 183 yards and 1 interception.
Jeremiah Lewis ended things with the following interception as Troy attempted to drive the field to tie it.
The Blue Devils have now won 5 straight bowl games dating back to 2015. Interestingly, the Blue Devils had lost 5 straight dating all the way back to 1960 prior to starting their postseason win streak in 2015.
