Duke jumps up in AP Poll after 3-0 start to 2021-22 season

Duke is rising up the rankings.

The Blue Devils moved up to No. 7 in this week’s AP Top 25 after winning three straight games to open the season. They opened the year at No. 9.

Gonzaga, UCLA, Kansas, Michigan, Villanova and Purdue are the teams ranked above Duke this week.

Duke defeated Kentucky, Army and Campbell in the opening week. Its win over the Wildcats at Madison Square Garden garnered most of the attention and help push the Blue Devils over Texas and Baylor in the rankings.

5-star freshman Paolo Banchero is leading Duke so far. He’s averaging 19.3 points per game while shooting an efficient 67.7 percent from t

he floor. He’s also been exceptional on the defensive end and is averaging 8.7 rebounds per contest.

Junior Wendell Moore, freshman Trevor Keels and sophomore Jeremy Roach are also scoring in double figures. Moore is leading the Blue Devils with 6 assists per contest.

Duke’s schedule remains soft for the next couple weeks, but high-profile matchups vs. Gonzaga and Ohio State are looming in late November.

Duke hosts Gardner-Webb on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. ET.
