Duke’s 2024 recruiting class took a hit this weekend with the decommitment of an edge defender. Ahmad Breaux has reopened his recruitment after being pledged to the Blue Devils for over a month.
Breaux, a 3-star EDGE prospect out of Ruston (Louisiana), had been pledged to Duke since Jan. 26. Sunday, he tweeted a note announcing his decommitment from the Blue Devils.
Breaux looks to want to play closer to home. His decommitment comes less than 24 hours after LSU extended a scholarship offer. Breaux visited LSU campus Saturday and picked up a scholarship offer from Brian Kelly’s staff.
Breaux isn’t the first Louisiana recruit to commit to a school and later flip to LSU, a
nd he won’t be the last. Breaux’s Duke pledge survived offers from Missouri and Purdue, but LSU is just too hard for many Louisiana prospects to turn down.
Mike Elko’s staff will just have to move on to the next EDGE prospect on the board. Losing Breaux stings, but it’s early in the 2024 recruiting cycle and there’s plenty of time to find another EDGE prospect.
With 6 commitments, Duke still has one of the ACC’s top classes right now.
