Duke names starting quarterback for 2022 season

Duke coach Mike Elko officially named a starting quarterback on Sunday morning.

The Blue Devils will start Riley Leonard in their opener vs. Temple on Friday night.

Leonard beat out J

ordan Moore for the job during fall camp. Despite the outcome, Moore is still expected to be involved in the offense as a wide receiver.

“After a very intense quarterback battle this fall, we have decided to go with Riley Leonard as our starting quarterback,” Elko said in a release. “We are excited to see him lead our team this fall, and we also know that Jordan M

oore will be an impact player for our offense in many roles as well.”

Leonard was the favorite going into the battle due to his experience at the position. Last season, he completed 37-of-62 passes for 381 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 interception.

Duke will begin the Elko era on Friday night against Temple. The game kicks off at 7:30 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on ACC Network.
